Pharmacia - Sunny J's ceramic installation unveiled at Galerie Alpha
Sunny J's new series of painted ceramics, produced in the Chinese town famous for porcelain arts, Jindezheng, is recently on view in Galerie Alpha, in Thiers, France.
Shaped to imitate pharmaceutical utensils, this collection of painted ceramic containers can be arranged freely in shelves or cabinets so as to be reminiscent of Cabinet of curiosities, a practice that has fascinated collectors with its display of morbidity and deaths. Pharmacia thus induces a sort of double-edged pleasure: a promise to cure and a demonstration of universal mortality.
